Dunville's 'Old Irish Whisky' Enamel on Tin Sign Approximately 32 Inches Wide
Founded in Belfast in 1808, the Dunville Distillery was run by five generations of the Dunville family until 1931, when the fifth Dunville chairman died suddenly. With no family member available to continue the business, Dunvilles, once considered the King of Irish Whiskys (hence the crown logo to the sign), ceased distilling four years later in 1935. The firm was liquidated the following year. Benevolent employers who gave a lot to the city of Belfast, it was a blow. Eighty years passed, and in 2015 the company was reborn with distilling recommencing under the ownership of The Echlinville Distillery. The tradition of excellence that is Dunvilles now continues. This sign, of recent manufacture, celebrates the tradition of fine craftmanship associated with the original. Thick enamel laid on steel, it too is faithful to the original, and bodes well to the fine future laying ahead for the new Dunville Old Irish Whisky Distillery.
